Under the hood of the 2012 Ford Fiesta is a 1.6-liter, 120-hp engine. Not what you'd usually think of for a racecar, right?
Adding 60 more ponies of power, Ford came back with a 180-hp, 177 lb-ft of torque, turbocharged, direct-injected, 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This tweaked power plant pushes the Ford Fiesta ST from 0 to 60 mph in seven seconds flat!Top speed? One-hundred-and-thirty-five miles per hour.!
According to critics, the concept Fiesta ST looks more like the Focus ST than the traditional Fiesta, with a few stand-out details. The transformation of the Fiesta ST included a taller hood, a large honeycomb grill, a lower ride height, 17-inch aluminum wheels, side-sells, hoop style rear wing, and flared wheel arches. While details about the interior are still being kept under wraps, it's rumored that a "high contrast" color scheme are in order, as well as Recaro bucket seats.
When the Ford Fiesta ST concept debuted in Frankfurt, Ford was still calling it a concept car. But critics and enthusiasts seem to agree that this model is probably closer to production than the American automaker has yet to admit. They have said, however, that this is a look at what a performance-tuned Fiesta will look like when "it joins the Focus ST in the global small car portfolio."2
Does this mean, drivers in the Lititz, PA area will be able to get their hands on it? We're hoping so.
